CJ 2013
Day 1: With eager faces we piled onto the
plane in full scout uniform talking about CJ and the activities we would be
doing.
After a long and boring 4 hour flight we
stepped off and got our gear onto carts and onto the bus. When we finally arrived at camp we carried all
our heavy gear to our campsite and when all the gear was set up at camp we
threw a tarp over our gear due to light rain.
The tents went up very fast and everybody
had their gear in them, then we went to set up our shelter it was pretty easy. When
the stoves where in the shelter we waited a little bit till opening. When we arrived at opening they were singing a
song, after the song the camp leader spoke but I couldn’t hear most of it as I
was sitting away from the speakers. When
we got back to camp it was free time so I went badge trading, it was very fun
and the crowd was huge. That night the
PL’s and APL’s cooked mug up. After mug up I went to be with my tent mates Joel
Vangemert, Joey, my brother, and Lucas Johnson.
Day 2: When we woke up in the morning we
had a nice breakfast and made our lunch, we then headed off for spiritual time
where we listened to many different prayers and learned about the scout
compass.
After Spiritual time we had future world which
was basically pioneering. It was not a
very exciting activity because we did a low ropes course where our low ropes
activities weren’t very fun, next we did an activity called the amazing race,
where we had an envelope filled with activities we had to complete. After the activities it was free time so I
went badge trading, had some ice cream and had dinner.
Day 3: When I woke up on day 3 I had a nice
breakfast with great oatmeal. After
breakfast we had free time which I spent badge trading and exploring the X
centre. Then our patrol, the hungry hippos, went to underwater world, which I
could not participate in due to my ruptured eardrum. After a couple of hours sitting around we
headed back to camp where we had free time which I again spent badge trading.
Day 4: Today our patrol was on duty patrol
so we cooked and cleaned and the worst of all, an early wakeup call so we could
cook breakfast. When we woke up at 6:00 a.m. we started cooking and making
bagged lunches for the other 2 patrols that were going to the Calgary Stampede.
That day we had the X centre which was
basically free time. During the X centre I went badge trading, programmed a
robot and went to the internet café. Next
we did water crafting which I again couldn’t do. When we got back to camp I
noticed we had a to do list for the spirit of the jamboree award. I became
extremely interested and decided that we should invite a troop over for dinner
because it was just our patrol. After some difficulties with planning, that I
smoothed out, everything worked out just fine.
Day 5: Today was the best day by far as we
were going to the West Edmonton Mall! After
a hurried breakfast we hopped on the buses and headed to the mall. When we arrived,
we went to the bathroom and then the food court to eat, I had McDonalds. After eating I went Ice Skating and did a
ropes course, then I headed down to the water park and waited for everybody
else. When everyone was there I headed off to play bowling with scouter Don. After that we went to Old Spaghetti Factory
for dinner, I had a great pasta.
Day 6: Today we had archery which was very
fun, I wasn’t that great at it. Archery was a short activity with a long wait. After archery we had brontosaurus riding where
we played steal the bone, then we moved onto leather craft which was impossible,
when suddenly the field was evacuated. When
we got back to camp it was raining and the wind had knocked our shelter over. After that we had free time which we spent
badge trading.
Day 7: We had duty patrol again so we woke
up early and cooked, we made French toast. After that we went to Fly like a pterodactyl where we
did drawing activities, Frisbee golf and dinosaur games. Then when it came to the zipline line it was
time to leave so they said we could come back later. After lunch I packed up my stuff and then we
left to go to the zipline again, it was very fun. After that, more free time and badge trading
Day 8: Today we packed up all the gear and
left for the airport. I bought some dinner and got on the plane. When we got
back I was happy to see my parents we headed home and I remembered what a great
time I had at CJ 2013.

12th Canadian Scout Jamboree - CJ'13
DAY ONE
I
arrived at the airport with my parents and my brothers at 6:00 in the morning.
We said our goodbye's and off we went. First we had to go through security,
everybody was checked in and we were all good to go. We got on the plane and
off we went. Four hours later we were in Alberta. We got off the plane and got
on a bus. As soon as I got on the bus I fell asleep and two hours later Joel
was waking me up. When we got off the bus we walked into our campsite carrying
all of the gear. It was heavy, but we finally we made it to our site. After
setting everything up we went to sleep.
I tented with my brother Josh, Joel and Lucas.
DAY TWO
I
got up in the morning and had a nice breakfast. We then headed off to spiritual
time. We sung O Canada and listened to some different religions homilies. Then
we left to have lunch. After lunch we had future world. Personally I think that
future world was the most boring activity we did all week. All we did was, low
ropes and an activity called amazing race. The activity I had the most fun at was
the human pyramid because I got to be at the top. After that we went back to
the site had lunch and free time for the rest of the day. I of course spent
free time badge trading. Then we had dinner, more badge trading, mug up and then
we went to sleep.
DAY THREE
I got up and was told we had free
time until lunch so I badge traded all morning, of course. Then it was off to
underwater world. Our first activity was rafting. Me, Liam and Scouter Bill got into the raft that
had HOLES IN IT! I bailed, Scouter Bill paddled and I don't know what Liam was
doing. We did four laps until finally we sank. After that we had to use
pressurized air to make a wooden box filled with cinderblocks float. It was
hard and lots of people dropped out because the lake was to cold and just when
we were about to give up it worked. After that nobody wanted to do the last
activity, snorkelling, except me and my friend Joel. Snorkelling was a lot of fun.
Then we all went back to the campsite, did some badge trading, had mug up and
dinner and went to sleep.
DAY FOUR
I got up, had a nice breakfast and
headed out to the x center. Me and Joel programmed a robot, sumo wrestler,
played air hockey and went to the internet cafe. Then we came back to the site and
had lunch. After lunch we went to water crafting. First we went rafting, it was
really fun until we got sunk by another raft. Joel and I swam our raft in. After
that we went kayaking where I got sunk by Callum twelve times, but I had fun
anyways especially when Joel sunk Callum. Then we had dinner, badge trading and
went to sleep.
DAY FIVE
Today was the day at the West
Edmonton Mall. We had breakfast and got on a bus. Three hours later we were at
the West Edmonton Mall. As soon as we got there we went straight for the
bathrooms we were all very happy because the toilets actually flushed. After
that we all threw away the sandwiches we brought and went straight for the food
court. After our great meal we went to the amusement park and went on a bunch
of rides. On one ride we got to shoot zombies.
After that we went shopping for about an hour. Then we went to the water
park and it was amazing. One of the slides did a 'loop t loop' and the wave
pool was insane. The water park was fun but it was time to go have dinner at
the old spaghetti factory. The food was great. After dinner, we took another three hour bus
ride back to the site. We all came home and went to sleep.
DAY SIX
Today was archery. We ate breakfast
and headed out. I hit the red target... except it was on someone else's target.
Then we had lunch. After lunch we had fly brontosaurs riding. First we played guard
the bone and then we did leather crafting. After leather crafting it started to
poor rain and we had to evacuate the field. We all went back to site and played
cards in the thunder and lightning. After the rain cleared up we had free time
for the rest of the day which I of course spent badge trading.
DAY SEVEN
Today was zip line. We had breakfast
and headed off to the first activity, it was cave pictures. We had to draw cave
pictures that told a story. Next we went to rope tying which I found very hard.
After that we had to miss zip line and go eat lunch. After lunch we went zip
lining while everybody else packed up. Then we had dinner, free time, mug up
and went to sleep.
COMING HOME
Today we left CJ. We packed
everything up put it on the bus and headed out. As soon as we got to the
airport we got something to eat, I went to Tim Horton's. After that we got on
the plane and came home. My parents
picked me up at the airport. My little
brother was sick so we had to leave quickly.
When I got home, I had a nice meal and a hot shower. Then I got to sleep in my own bed.
CJ was great and I will never forget
it!
