D.I.B.C 2013

We left for Dorchester around 6:30 and arrived at Camp Bel at 8:00. It was good weather right then. I gave everyone their tent assignments and started set-up. At the beginning of the camp we were late to get to the Leaders meeting because Scouter Colin had to get his dinner from Wendy’s.

  • Cubs a little rowdy, fooled around a lot around the tents. Sometimes they listened when a leader talked to them.
  • Meals were good and delicious, next time I plan a menu I would ask people much earlier for their choices. The french toast was burnt, so next time I would make sure the person on the duty roster for that meal is experienced cooking that meal.
  • Tent arrangements were in order
  • The out trip to the Rifle Range and Archery was a  "blast"!

A leader called our parents to ask if we could be picked up early, I am not sure why, but some of us had to leave at 10. Before we left almost everything was done. The scubs were not very helpful about cleaning up; they were fooling around, so they will need to work on that for next year.

Grand River Canoe Trip Report

Myself and Scouter Al, Scouter Brent, another Scouter and scouts from Carlisle drove to Grand Experiences in Paris to rent our 2 canoes. We drove the canoes to Cambridge, and dumped there.
  • One potential problem was Scouts were wearing jeans to canoe
  • We were switching canoes and from stern and bow in the water, which I liked.
  • We went through some rapids that were small and we went through two rapids that were just ranked as a one
  • After lunch we went through a few bridges and between rocks about 1 meter apart and some of us got through it without touching the rocks and some didn’t
  • After we stopped in Paris we brought the canoes up and put the canoes from Grand Experience back, and then drove home, happy after a day of paddling on the Grand.
