French River / Sudbury Trip, June - July 2011

Day One

Our scout troop arrived at Frontenac School around 5:30pm, about an hour later we then left for our road trip to Grundy Lake Provincial Park.

On the way we stopped at a gas station and food place. We then all had a snack. Soon after that we got to Grundy Lake around midnight. Earlier on that day some other people came up and set up the tents because of all the mosquitoes that come out at night. We then all just jumped into our tents with our gear and fell asleep.

Day Two

After that relaxing night of sleep we had to get our act together and set up the rest of the camp. The most important to set up was the kitchen. After the rest was set up we ate. After lunch we went cliff jumping, that was fun. On our way back we found a beach with a raft which we played king of the hill on. When we got back we cooked our dinner of steaks and veggies in dutch ovens.

Day Three

Today we packed up everything but had breakfast after the tents were down. After it was all packed up we started to drive to the launch point. We then got our gear into the canoes and paddled away. Later on that day we came to Recollet Falls, named after the Recollet Priests who died there. We portaged around the falls and just kept going to our campsite. When we got there we set up and went to bed.

Day Four

Today when we got up we took down our tents and ate. Then we got on the water fast and were off for another day of paddling. When we got to a set of rapids we had intended to go around them but they were only Class 1 rapids so we went through them in our canoes to save some time. For the last few km we sailed, yeah!. The wind died down so we had too paddle one more time. When we reached our destination point we packed up the gear and started to head for Camp Wilabosca where we cooked a steak dinner and then went to bed in the cabins.

Day Five

On this day we got up out of bed (only because of Bailey and Andrew and their pots), ate breakfast and made our lunches for the day. Soon after we went to the cars and drove to Dynamic Earth where we saw a movie about Volcanoes and had a tour of the mines. Next was Science North, like the Science Centre, there Me, Thomas and Scouter Glen made cars out of stuff and raced them. We also saw some shows too. After we went back to Camp Wilabosca.

Day Six

Today we packed up everything after eating and started our big drive home, 5 hours. On the way we stopped at the same place as Day One and had lunch. It was so busy you had to wait forever in line. After that we drove and drove and were home.
