Competition Camp 2010

At competition camp I arrived Friday night at about 7:00. While making a trip to the trailer for the rest of the gear my walking stick broke. After everything was set up we had mug up. For mug up we had hot chocolate and cookies. Afterwards we went and participated in the glow stick hunt.

On Saturday morning we had scrambled eggs and oatmeal for breakfast. Two patrol members didn’t wake up in time and had no scrambled eggs. Then we had opening and proceeded to the first events of the day. First there was an event where the patrol had to stand on a tarp while it was repeatedly folded under our feet. Next we went to an event were we had to make our way under a rope while spinning a hula-hoop. Then we had to throw beanbags into a box. Along the way we received a bunch of random items that we used to dress up a member of our patrol. Afterwards we ate hot dogs for lunch. Beforehand two people in the patrol ate all the chips. Then we did tug of war. Our patrol won the trophy, which was a wooden fish, painted gold. Then we lugged the equipment into the field and constructed our catapult which was tested using a rubber ball. Soon after we did the leader dinner for which we prepared fried eggplant, sloppy Joes and pineapple puffs.

Later on we had campfire at which each group did a skit. Our group did a skit called 11. At Saturday mug up we had wafers and hot chocolate.

The next morning it started to rain at 4:00 and never stopped. We had oatmeal for breakfast and packed up. The tents got soaked as we packed them up. Getting the shelter down was a challenge. Later we had closing and I left at 12:30 because that’s what the email said except it was actually a half hour earlier at 12:00.

Carlisle Winter Patrol Camp

The Carlisle scout troop decided to hold a winter camp on December 11-13 of 2009. It was therefore decided by the scouts that it would be held in Blue Springs scout reserve near Acton Ontario using the camp’s facilities and Adirondacks.

We arrived at around 7:30 and started the long 700m walk in to the Adirondacks. Once everything and everyone was setup we started a fire to keep warm. While the fire was getting setup other’s helped to get mug up ready which was cookies and hot drinks. After mug up we made a duty roster and were in bed by 10:00.

Everyone was up at quarter to 8:00 and breakfast was cooking by 8:30, which was very simple; eggs in a bag (omelets in a bag). After breakfast we got a daypack ready and headed out to the other pavilion. Once there we dropped our stuff off, and headed out to an obstacle course, which was quite fun in the snow. After the obstacle course we had lunch: hot dogs and soup with fruit and chips. Shortly after, we began our hike to the tower, which was about 6 hours long. It was beginning to get dark so we headed back to get our Scouter’s surprise ready for dinner. After our outstanding dinner we played a game, made a fire and then had mug up. We were in bed by 10:00 again.

The next morning we had oatmeal and whatever was left over. After breakfast we had an intense treasure hunt. Then we began our 2 long trips out plus personal gear. Once parents arrived we grabbed a snack of what was left over and were gone by 12:30.

I learned that when you’re winter camping you have to dress appropriate and bring the right gear to camp. I also learned that you should eat food that stay’s warmer longer.
